The college application process

I know absolutely nothing about it and pretty soon I'll have to start picking out schools, which sucks.

  • I still don't know anything about the college application process, and I already went through it last year...

YOU INSPIRE SUCH CONFIDENCE IN ME, DYRE.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Pretty much everyone has to improvise their way through it. Don't worry; your competition is doing the same.

FYI, the better schools usually have earlier deadlines.  I don't know why.

That said, it sounds like you're applying for undergraduate admission.  Be happy you're not applying for a master's or PhD program.  Some of those have obnoxiously early deadlines, like December or even November of the year before.
  • My mom is gonna make me sign up in my Junior year...is that common?

On the other hand, the Manhattan School Of Music will probably not accept me, and I don't have a backup school to choose if I can't go to that one...crap.

There's a bunch of other music schools.

    You're looking at music schools?

What instrument do you play, or what are you applying for?
  • I'm more interested in being a composer. I'm learning piano right now (Or will be when I can get a keyboard >_>)

I've never really been good at playing instruments, but I'm good at composing them.

Chagen: If by sign up, you mean apply, then no. Schools will want to see your junior year grades unless you're being admitted a year early. Also, have you taken music theory?

Wicked: Do you have a counselor who handles college stuff at your school? It's really not too bad as long as you keep track of all the deadlines.
  • My mom wants me to apply the summer after my Junior Year, so that pothole's taken care of.
  • The hardest part of the process is navigating all of the schools different sites. Every single one is horrible in a different way.

Okay, now that I'm actually actively searching for a college, this is even stupider than I thought.

Most schools have their own application process, which, on top of being a big pain in the ass content-wise, often has meh-at-best web interfaces if they even have web interfaces at all.
  • --evil laughter--

Oh it feels good to have that shit over with.
  • I'm having the same problem, but the hardest part for me is that I've liked every college I've visited so far.
