    Huh?

Haven't heard this, but then again, I don't go to political philosophy debate threads much.

Well, you do have to acknowledge that yes, in our current system of capitalism, people do suffer economically.

Socialism aims to fix that. Ergo, If you don't support socialism you obviously hate poor people.
  • Please Guy in White we havn't been capitalist in a loooooong time probobly since Hoover at the very latest.

  • all i'm syaing is that you blame capitalism like it's this great evil that creates some sort of Plutocracy when for quite a long time we've been corporatist not capitalist. If J.M. Kynes knew anything about economics i doubt we'd be so screwed right now.

Yeah, you could make that claim against any strawman implying that we've been purely capitalist or socialist or ANY basic economic system.
  • are you going to just make pretentious laughing text or are you going to contribute?

Are the means of production owned privately and operate for profit in America?

Then yes, we're a capitalist country.
  • does the government pander to lobbies and give handouts and favors to special itnerest groups and corporations? then We are corporatist.

Corporatism, also known as corporativism, is a system of economic, political, or social organization that involves the contract of corporate groups, such as agricultural, business, ethnic, labor, military, patronage, or scientific affiliations, into a collective body.[1] Corporatism is based upon the interpretation of a community as an organic body.[2][3] The term corporatism is based on the Latin root "corp" meaning "body".

    really
  • and this is why I hate collectivism

Ah, I thought corporatism meant that corporations controlled everything.

    Nevermind then.
  • Well that seems related to a specific variant known as Fascism.

Actually, that's a common usage definition of "corporatism" anyway.

(Also, GuyInWhite and Mousa, if you don't like points that someone else brings up, it's better if you refute them in words or ignore them.)

Tnu: What is your problem with collectivism anyway?  You seem to really hate "collectivism", and all you can say about it is that you're paranoid about being forced to do or not do stuff.

Not to mention that I already showed you that there's a difference between vertical and horizontal collectivism, for starters.  As well as the fact that people living together in any society inevitably requires that there be rules on what each person can or cannot do.
  • because it's antithetical to individualism and our rights as individuals to life, liberty, and property. People don't have rights because they are poor or rich or black or white. They have them because they are individuals and no other individual or collective has the right to tell them what to do. TO censor them, to steal form them, to assault them, to molest them. the collectiveist left and the collectivist right are the same thing to me if it's not coercion against ones person (right) it's against ones property (Left)
  • You still live in a country with laws.

If you want to be a "true" individual, by definition, you better go out and live in the woods.
  • Thorn do you attack everyone like this or just me? Is there a personal grudge or osmthign that we need to work out?
  • Other than antarctica, there isn't a single piece of land on earth not owned by someone or something.

^^^ I wasn't attacking at all, I'm just making a point that true individual freedom as how you define it is kind of a pipe dream utopia that we as imperfect humans cannot achieve.

Supper happy communism collectivism isn't possible either too, I'll be the first to admit that.
  • sothere's no point to life if you can't be free.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
    -_-
  • Dude, we are free. Just not 100% free.

Nothing in life is completely free.

Go look at the people in the middle east who DIE if they so much as have the desire to VOTE.

You should be grateful to live in a place where we can argue these things freely.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Yeah, there are places where you'd be in a lot of trouble for having differing opinions.

    You're pretty damn free.
  • oih no don't pull that fucking "you should be greatful" Appeal To Worse Problems bullshit. and how can we be free if we don't have a free economy?
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Because then we'd have monopolies, and that's worse.
