Homeopathy

I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
I know it is incredibly fashionable/easy to hate on it, but it needs to be hated on.

Especially when people are convinced that it will help them overcome serious illness, and then up dead due to misinformation.

When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT

"There's an infinitesimal amount of mass in the universe. So if you took that formula, E=MC^2, you can almost cross out mass. So the formula ends up being, energy equals the speed of light. And that's why the vision system is so important, because we have lots of photoreceptors that see light. But when Honneman died, he, um, the scientists didn't fall in his camp, okay, and um, the pieces of the puzzle didn't fit well together. So God in his infinite wisdom sent another Einstein, named Stephen Hawkings [sic]. Okay, Stephen Hawkings [sic] gave us the string theory. And what he discovered are that there are other energetic particles in the universe, and they're shaped like little noodles, and what they do is work by vibration. So our body is so wonderfully designed, we have light receivers, and we have ears. String, vibratory, they pick up vibrations. So if you added to that theory, Einstein's theory of relativity, E=MC^2, but mass is crossed out, almost, and strings, vibrations."
  • To play devil's advocate, aren't many medicines based in natural things like venoms and the like?

Not that Homeopathy is a good idea. But some medicine does come from natural sources.
  • Sure, but that's not what homeopathy is about.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
    Some, yes.

But a good portion is just scientists replicating biological forms and processes with artificial ingredients.
  • I don't think anyone objects to using natural things to treat illnesses. People object to the fact that homeopaths peddle water as medicine and wheedle millions of people out of their money and their health. Read up on homeopathy, it's batshit crazy voodoo.

Chagen homeopathy does not = natural.
Many conventional medicines have been developed from nature, and some are artificial.

However the idea that a incredibly diluted bit of whatever they feel has caused your illness would provide a cure is quite far away from natural.
  • I'm okay with this.
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
With homeopathy? Could you clarify why?
  • That opening video made me uncomfortable. It's amazing how having a seizure changes your perspective of these things.
  • a little muffled
@IanExMachina: Knowing Deboss, I assume it's because the people who believe in it deserve to die.

Ok, that woman in the second video just delivered some of the most amazing pseudo-scientific babble I've ever heard. In fact it sounds like the sort of thing someone would say to make a parody of this sort of pseudo-science.  Seriously, what the flying fuck was she on about?
