    I hate people like this too, because eventually they get so ridiculous and extreme that they don't even seem human, especially when all they talk about is their beliefs.

    Both SH and LH talk only about their crazy beliefs. It's like they aren't even human, and all they can talk about is their beliefs. It's like they have no purpose or dreams or likes or anything. They seem less like humans and more like real-life strawmen.

    I would tend to blame the actual ideologies more than the individual tropers themselves for this kind of thing. As I think Chagen said in another thread about racists and which I believe applies here as well, hating people for their worldviews may only entrench a victim complex or make them think that since everyone else disagrees with them they see the truth that no one else sees. I think the second reaction that I just mentioned is particularly common among those who have "over-the-top" views and who I believe tend to look down on those with mainstream views as being "sheeple" and such.

    I think there is also the question of whether tropers are really serious about such things or whether they are merely saying them for attention. I have no way of knowing that for sure, but I hope it is the latter.

    It might just be that such views come of a genuine concern about something or a desire to solve a real problem. I guess some people think that extreme means are necessarily to solve extreme problems. If that is true then, I think that it is possible to persuade people to go away from those "over-the-top" views if one is able to effectively present an alternate means of achieving the same goals.

    All of that being said, this kind of thing does trouble me. It is difficult for me to see people advocate killing people as a solution to a problem, especially when it seems impossible to change their minds.

    Literally I don't think I can post in that thread without saying something dickish to him, so I'll moan here and then have dinner and forget about it.

    He falls into my category of 'pololitic' he has one singular view and is espousing it greatly, but he doesn't seem to understand the actual consequences, or that the people in his ideal situations (read no police) would have some disagreement about it.
