People who insult a band without actually hearing their songs.

For the love of god, at least research the band before you start trashing it.

My Chemical Romance never has, and never will be emo pop trash no matter how much you say, idiot. Go marathon The Black Parade and say that again.

(speaking of, I should probably get another album by them soon....)

  • The Black Parade wasn't all that great, so I'm not sure if listening to it's going to change too many people's opinions.

And their first two albums, though they were decent, I'll admit, were pretty typical of their genre, so the complaints against them really are justified, I'd say.
  • HOW DARE YOU NOT IMPLY THAT THE BLACK PARADE WASN'T GLORIOUS

I'm just mad at people saying things that aren't true in the slightest. Such as when one of MCR's songs was gonna be the OP for Gran Turismo 5, the entire fandom on GTPlanet went insane, all of them bitching about how the band was only for 16-year-old emo girls...fucking idiots.
  • I hate when people diss brokenCYDE without listening to their really good songs.
  • Aren't they really really awful?

Don't compare MCR to brokenCYDE. They're miles apart.

Chagen, either you need to learn how to make your jokes sound like jokes or you need to think a bit more before you type.

I try to listen to groups before I form an opinion, but you need some kind of filter. If people have listened to My Chemical Romance and still think they're trashy emo, though, maybe they should be allowed to think that.
  • Arks....that's what I'm saying. If you've heard the band, you can make an opinion on it. But most people just Complain About Bands You Dont Listen To.

    a little muffled
"People who insult a band without actually hearing their songs."

    "Aren't [brokeNCYDE] really really awful?

Don't compare MCR to brokenCYDE. They're miles apart."

    ...
  • Vorpy, MCR is not an emo band. Gerard himself has said that "emo is bullshit. We're not emo." and hates the genre.

Those who actually hear them will also see this. The only midly emo lyric in The Black Parade is "And without you/Is how I dissappear, and live my life alone/Forever now..."

Also, that lyric is justified. The main character has just died and woken up in hell, realizing that he'll never see his ex-girlfriend again after he reconciled with her AND he's going to burn in eternal torment for killing people in war. The man has a damn right to be a little depressed and sad at that point.

Some of My Chemical Romance's songs do get rather wangsty at times...

It's justified when the main characters are suffering. The songs are song from a character's perspective--their albums are Rock Operas designed to tell stories.

The Black Parade's main character is dead and in hell or some kind of afterlife. He has a damn right to angst.

"Justified" or not, the w/angst still gets rather annoying at times.
  • I always take wangst to be over-reacting to the situation. So I don't mind it when the situation is that grave. And honestly, if you actually read the lyrics, they are not that wangtsy.
  • The Sonic Series Wiki Curator of TvTropes
  • So I guess this is where YMMV comes into play.

Remember that I'm in the main demographic for these songs, and you are out of it. So we may see things differently.
  • «Aren't they really really awful?»

    That's the joke.
  • Chagen, there has never been a single musician in the history of music that has been honest about their own work.  If Gerard Way says they aren't emo, that means exactly nothing.  And incidentally, they fit perfectly into the emo aesthetic and sound, at least as far as anything in the past decade or two is emo (since, as I'm sure you know, the word has changed meaning many times as new genres kept getting called the same thing).

Their albums are not rock operas.  They are to some extent concept albums, but in their first three albums at least (never listened to their newest album) the concept is pretty loosely adhered to, especially in the first two albums.

Their lyrics are pretty damn wangsty, and have the bizarre ability to take things that actually are legitimate reasons to be complaining, and still make the lyrics sound overdramatic.

And of course, more importantly, the fact that I'm sure you haven't listened to every single BrokenCYDE song and, while I'm sure they really are awful, it does seem more than a little hypocritical of you to suggest that they are automatically vastly inferior to My Chemical Romance.

They may fit into it, but I refuse to call them such a demeaning term

Really? On The Black Parade, I was able to figure out a whole story from it (with some stuff added in, obviously).

Their lyrics are pretty damn wangsty, and have the bizarre ability to take things that actually are legitimate reasons to be complaining, and still make the lyrics sound overdramatic.

    Glorious Large Ham =/= Overdramatic

There's nothign wrong with being loud. Part of the reaon I love TBP so much is that it's so forcefully loud and awesome.

And of course, more importantly, the fact that I'm sure you haven't listened to every single BrokenCYDE song and, while I'm sure they really are awful, it does seem more than a little hypocritical of you to suggest that they are automatically vastly inferior to My Chemical Romance.

Except they are? At least according to nearly everyone. Yeah, you may say Argumentum Ad Populum, but they're designed as entertainment; if nobody likes them, they're failed at their job and as such probably suck.
  • Well, people get entertainment from mocking them. Just like Jessica Black and Justin Bieber. With that in mind, you can say that they've succeeded in a sense.
  • Yeah....but that's more "You failed so damn hard you somehow succeeded".

  • Ironically enough, I liked my Chemical Romance, until now.
  • Well, after hearing the album again today, I can almost see where you guys are coming from.

And I don't really care. Because I like the angsty lyrics I like angsty lyrics in general. I never got why emo is such a hated genre.
  • The Sonic Series Wiki Curator of TvTropes
Again, it all boils down to angst dissonance, mon.
  • I don't hate emo. It's fine.
  • edited 2011-04-01 14:10:24
The genre is hated mostly because it's associated with a subculture that glorifies whininess and apathy and generally being an annoying prick, which is not something most people outside of that subculture want to see in the people they interact with.
  • I can forgive a song for being "emo", though, a person, perhaps not.
  • Well, there you go.

On that note, I like emo music. I hate the emo subculture or whatever, but I like the music.
