Breaking the Law....with Magic and Psychic Powers

Say you are brought to court for, lets say, assault and battery. I want to know if... * it's illegal to hypnotize the Judge or the Jury into dismissing your charges or give you no charge. * Using magic to threaten, mystify or manipulate the effects or influence of a court handling your charges is against the law. * Using a telepathy to kill or lobotomize your judge or the jury to prevent them from making a ruling can be taken to court. * Travelingback in time to that court date and objecting to the sentence if you have found proof in the future that you are not guilty. Also.... Is harming people's mental health with telepathy illegal? Is using telekinesis to hurt people count as assault with a deadly weapon? Can you be convicted for using magic to steal merchandise from stores? It's not about if these things are possible, it's about if they are allowed.

  • I assume that if they did exist, there would be laws to make sure you can't get away with these things.

I mean if you did them right now. Not they had a history of existing and laws are written for them.

There are no Magic and Telepathy laws in the United States right now.
  • Well, people either would be horribly afraid of you, or they would rationally make sure you can't get away with that.

Most of these things are already covered in laws, and can be applied to situations like this, under things like assault and murder.
  • no, no, no, paradox, yes, yes, yes.

Because you never know what you might see.
We don't know how paradoxes work in this universe, since nobody's invented time travel.  It might be possible if such a thing existed; there's no way of knowing since it doesn't.

Anyway, I'd think anything that would be illegal without magic would be illegal with it.  A murder is still a murder whether you shoot somebody with a gun, zap them with a wand or smother them with a bag of Cheetos.
  • Telepathy falls under "A Specific Way to Invade Privacy", which is something most people really hate and therefore illegal.

Magic falls under "Specific method of injuring/killing people", which is something victims really hate and therefore illegal.

    We're covered.

It would be indeed interesting if everyone suddenly gained magical powers.

If I gained magic powers I would go out and be a super hero only to die when I forget magic =/= bullet proof :D

I'm having to deal with that fridge logic right now.  How do I figure out why people haven't simply shot some of these superheroes to death, since these characters in my stories are extremely involved in controversial politics.  And they all have guns themselves too.

    Easy Glenn:

Superman is invincible to all but Kryptonite
Spiderman pisses them off with quips until they resort to missing
    Batman is the GODDAMN BATMAN
And the others have other things that help them but I'm too lazy to do research on every super hero ever and it doesn't help that I've only read one single issue of a comic book that wasn't by Viz and a Pokemon adaptation and oh god I have addiction issues don't I why don't I do something about them I NEED HELP damn this is a long run on sentence heh long and run on rhyme how funny is that that makes it awesome awesome fills me with some awe HAH see what I did there where was I oh yeah too lazy to do research

I can only give so many of them force shields.
