Ever notice how there seems to be so many holidays that exist just so your mail won't be delivered?
It's like, Yesterday I checked the mail every hour on the hour. By 6 pm, nothing had arrived. Then someone tells me "Today is Columbus Day, ya know. Mail doesn't run today."
WHAT THE FUCK IS COLUMBUS DAY?! Is that even a real Holiday? Since I online order a lot, I'm always dealing with these holidays I never heard of that seem to exist just so that Ogre Battle game I ordered will come later instead of now. Fucking fake holidays.

How did you just find out about this?
From what I hear, this problem is only going to get worse from now on given postal service budget constraints. I am hoping that Saturday mail service does not end because of how important the mail can be, especially for people who live in rural areas. Plus, I feel like postal workers deserve a lot of respect given how important their job is to keeping everything moving properly.
I suppose a lot of stuff has moved to private carriers, but I think that can actually be kind of inconvenient, especially when you have to be somewhere at a specific time to sign for packages. I am not sure if the USPS does that or not, but at the very least I think post offices tend to be closer than UPS or FedEx ones.
As for being told that there is no mail because of a holiday, I have been there and I agree that it can be pretty awkward, particularly when it happens on a Sunday.
Did you somehow miss the "Then someone tells me Today is Columbus Day" part of my story?
