"Square should remake FFVII!"

edited 2011-07-29 09:22:17 in Media
I don't get this. Either it's going to be basically the same game, but with better graphics and voice-acting, in which case there's not much of an incentive for people who already played the first to buy it, or it's going to have some changes, which the purists will probably bitch about endlessly.

They could probably make more money just making the next FF game, anyway.

  • I want to see an FFVII remake with different gameplay. Not that I had a problem with the old gameplay for the most part, but the graphics for FFVII sucked and because of that it's really the only one of the 3D games where a remake wouldn't be a complete waste of time, IMO. And if they're going to redo the graphics, they might as well go all the way and change up the gameplay as well. But then again, I'm not a purist.

They were going to at one point for PS2, but then Spirit Within happened. As for a possible remake, I assume it will be the same game with updated graphics, voice acting, and an extra quest here and there, maybe some new materia, but all in all the same game. Look at Chrono Trigger DS, same game, same graphics, they just added a a new quest, redid the translation, and used the PS1 FMV scenes.

The gameplay should stay mostly the same. There is so much that went well with the original. I think it would be best if there was both a remastered edition - with smoother graphics, bug fixing, and some additional bonus content, and a major remake which stays loyal to the original storyline and gameplay but expands the game's environments alot more.  Wall market? I want a game environment three times the size, crossdressing Cloud *cough* and all the finer details. Nibelheim? It could become even creepier. But then alot of sprite humour could be lost too. Alot of the hilarious moments are down to the character models. I'm more concerned about the original masterpiece of the game being lost to the sands of time, the copies of the game becoming rarer. I'd be happy with just a Final Fantasy compilation disc, so that the genius of the series is never lost.

Hasn't FFVII only had four releases, PS1 original release, PS1 greatest hits release, PC version (by Eidos), PSN release?

If FFIV can have like eight different versions (SFam, SNES, SFam easytype, WSC, PS1 FF Chronicles, GBA FF4a, PSP FF4 Complete Collection), then FFVII should get an updated release, fixing all the bugs and with much improved graphics.

    Also, please make cutscenes skippable.
  • Mr. The Edge goes to Washington
    Skippable cutscenes! YES!

And skippable cutscenes includes skippable Supernova animation.

    Thane of rum-guzzling and necromancy

^^^ That's true. Do the same with all the main Playstation titles, VII,VIII,IX. They deserve to be carried on.

While we're at it, remember the Aeon Opening Skip option in FFX? FFVII needs this!

  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
I can stand the intro of FFVII staying unskippable.  It transitions pretty seamlessly into gameplay and it is pretty awesome anyway.
  • Mr. The Edge goes to Washington
Hell, just throw the whole Final Fantasy VII series on one game with one gameplay. Cloud Tossing might be a fun mini-game.
  • Thane of rum-guzzling and necromancy
Needs a FFVII character crossdressing minigame too. Actually turn it into a full dating sim spinoff.
  • Mr. The Edge goes to Washington
I love that! Also have an Aeris Murder mini-game. Where as Sephiroth, you have to aim your attack, time it, and gauge the power.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
I don't remember where, but I saw an estimation of how much it would cost to remake FFVII these days. And having seen that, I really can't blame Square for not doing it.
  • Mr. The Edge goes to Washington
I am interested in how much that would cost. I'll do a quick Google search.

    > Aeris murder minigame

If this stoops to the level of a minigame, then the result shown in the following video had better be possible: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/58184
  • Mr. The Edge goes to Washington
Can't find any exact numbers for the cost, but it's estimated to be in the multi-millions.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
I would happy if there would be  a reboot, or even a graphic enhancing with a correct re-translation and battle fixes to enhance the game a bit more.

Other than that, that's all the game really needs, although the oldness of it's look is very charming.

No, I would not rage about anything they do, because I liked the game enough to accept anything they did about it, and so would my friends.
