"They like what I don't like, and that is why I am mad."

If more people admitted this to themselves before contributing to anything fan-based or based on opinions, the world would have a lot less idiotic hype aversion/backlash/complaining. It is why people think fans are the worst things to happen to popular works. It's why the "us vs. them" mentality is allowed to survive on wikis such as TV Tropes.

Because people think their complaining and whining is justified, and they need to tell everyone why moe anime is horrible, or why grimdark stories is boring, or why Modern Warfare 2/Oblivion is too plain and boring to win any gaming awards.

It's also one of the main things that annoy me about people Fan Hating. There is nothing wrong with people liking Naruto, nothing wrong with thinking My Little Pony is amazing, or thinking Gurren Lagann is the best anime ever. Instead of devoting time to being an asshole and trying to prove to them that their enjoyment of a series is unjustified, or dumping ad hominem and complaining into it, why don't you just enjoy yourself somewhere else, and fuck off? If they are annoying, it's worse for you to force yourself to pay attention to these people than doing something you actually like. Don't even pretend the entire population of Earth know what Touhou is and actively participate in the fandom.

Touhou does exist.

tl;dr If you think "I can't ignore the people that annoy me by liking things I don't because they are everywhere", blow your fucking brains out with a shotgun, kurt cobain style, you piece of shit.

(strawman alert!) In other words, they have no responsibility to show restraint, do they?

    Strawman? I don't see a strawman.

I like to call this "fandom persecution complex" (read: I just made up the term right now). And it does need to go away, though maybe not in such stark terms as you describe it with.

Exaggeration due to not feeling my fingers from touching cold doorknobs all day.
  • I was referring to my point being somewhat of a strawman, but really, there is more than one side to every issue. Fandom often leads to silliness such as using Gurren Lagann as an example in a serious discussion (okay, it's Raw Power, but there's the general idea).
  • a little muffled
But things I don't like suck!
  • Except when they do.

Some people like series that much I guess.
  • How about Twilight back when it was everywhere? I thought that was a good example of when the complaining was justified.

Of course, now it's just annoying to complain about it since the hype machine died down.

Justified my ass. It was not everywhere. A couple teenage girls reading books at school does not equal everywhere.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
It was more than a couple.

Twilight fandom started to annoy me when my friends expected me to like it, in spite of me being outside the target demographic and suffering severe values dissonance from the whole thing.

    ^^*shrug*

Maybe you'd feel differently about it if the series was based in a town less than an hour and a half from where you lived. The pandering to Twilight tourists there and in the town between us was pretty obnoxious.

    How about now?
  • If you're still complaining about Twilight, you have issues.
  • "Of course, now it's just annoying to complain about it since the hype machine died down."
  • You can change. You can.
Eh, all that remains in the public consciousness about Twilight is the fact that Breaking Dawn will be hilarious.
  • Is that the second or third one?

    The fourth.

    Oh. :x

The other two came out already?

Judging by the Twilight Marathon on Saturday, yes.
  • You can change. You can.
    Yuppers.

Not like they'd mattered. New Moon sucked even more and Eclipse actually was better than the other two, although it has problems.

Personally, the movies aren't that bad. I still don't like them, though.

    ^^...

Am I the only one that kind of wants to watch that marathon just to see how bad they are?

^I would disagree, but considering I only saw the first one... yeah. Still, the acting was cringeworthy.

^ You're the only one insane enough to.
  • You can change. You can.
Yeah, the acting was shit, but it was kind of enjoyable...in an odd way. I'd say that it's the supporting cast.

characters like Alice should get the spotlight. They are far more interesting.
  • As much as I hate to admit it, I did like that one perky vampire girl who's name I forgot.

And I stand by my original position that the movie would have been eons better had Shangela been cast as Bella Swan.

    That's Alice.

  • Oh. For some reason, I thought her name was Rosemary. :V

^ Rosalie? She's the beautiful one, apparently. No powers. She was raped and is kind of emo 'coz she can't have kids.

    I like Twilight.
