  On that note: I actually noticed that a lot of anime-style artwork of armored female knights tends to feature characters with light complexion and blond hair. (I kinda want to say blue eyes but I didn't pay attention to eye color.)

  It's ultimately still based on a conception of medieval Europe with particular emphasis on the aristocracy. Even the dudes tend to look white. And not just in a "anime characters are usually light-skinned" way.
