4chan, I think, hates them because vocal furries tend to also be tripfags. And because being a tripfag requires being at least a little bit of an attention whore, many tripfags are are as obnoxious as those tropers whose names begin with "C" and "D" we all love to bash. And really, the fandom has a ton of people who are thin-skinned and pathetically easy to troll. The quieter furries nobody remembers, because they post anonymously and don't draw attention to their furriness.

Basically, furry ---> tripfag ---> ALL OF MY HATE, etc.

ED just likes drama magnets, and no fandom has more of them than furries.

I don't hate furries, I hate bad art, a disproportionate amount of gay porn, and when people attention whore, when people have a persecution complex, and whenever someone's hobbies and interests are obviously warping their view of reality.

To generalize, if I can describe you as a furry, chances are you suck. If you're a furry, and I happen to not know, chances are very good that you're an okay person.

I do not think it makes sense to make fun of furries even if some people who identify as them think they are being "persecuted" or whatever, but then again I do not think it is fair to really treat anyone like that so mine is not a "furry specific" opinion. That being said, I do not necessarily like all of the things associated with being a furry anyway nor do I totally understand what it means. I also might have a persecution complex myself (or at least a martyr complex) so perhaps I just relate or something.

I kind of wish we could all just get along, but I suppose that is a bit naive. Sorry for saying something so cliche.

Also, could someone please explain to me what that comic means by "quasi-intellectual"? I do not really think I understand what that has to do with furries.

I actually do not think it was much of a strawman if by strawman you mean that the furry character is supposed to look dumber than actual furries are. I think the anonymous character seems to have less of a foundation for its beliefs. I suppose I might be misinterpreting the comic though.

I'm not sure why this is being asked, but I'll try to explain.

I think "quasi-intellectual" is usually meant derogatorily towards people who- if I may use a trope- are Know Nothing Know It Alls.

To put it another way, people who use complex arguments that don't have any real weight behind them. Or, people who act superior owing to intelligence they don't actually have.

Whether this is viewed as a symptom of furry fandom or meant as a more general insult is beyond me.

Thank you for the clarification anyway. I can certainly understand why someone assuming that you got all of your knowledge of his or her group from CSI or MTV specials would be annoying. However, if someone does not actually seem to have objections to the practices of a group like furries then I cannot necessarily see that person's perspective as sympathetic.

The impression I get from the comic is that the anonymous character does not really care about what furries do so much as the attitude of some of them. In my opinion, saying you hate someone because of that person's persecution complex does not really help the situation at all. I feel like the best response to a problem like that is to avoid giving the person a lot of attention or if one does see it as necessary to criticize something he or she has done, to give very specific reasons for that criticism so it does not seem like one dislikes what he or she has done just because that person belongs to a certain group.

I think that saying a certain subculture is bad because of the persecution complex associated with it, but then not actually elaborating on specific reasons why one believes the subculture is bad, makes one's disapproval of that subculture seem more arbitrary, thus fueling the persecution complex.

As for the quasi-intellectual remark, I think that is a rather odd reason to dislike a group (or a person), but your mileage may vary there. I do find elitism annoying though. In any event, I think hating people like that is pretty harmful if not utterly unnecessary.

Anyone who uses "Furry" as a personality tag, along with any high school stereotype or belief/disbelief system ever are not worth being acknowledged as a being worthy of respect. Humans are not tropes. Humans are not cookie-cutter shapes.

These people are enemies until they realize that fitting into a personality mold is ruining the world.
