I've been "banned" from TV Tropes.
  • inb4 Godwin's Law.
I tried to log into my account on TV Tropes (the Adolf Hitler one, if it honestly needs to be specified), and found that my password wasn't working. Go on, try it - the password is "funeralopolis". Naturally I was curious as to why I couldn't access my account, so I PM'd Fast Eddie to find out if there was something wrong. Bad idea? You bet. I don't know if he actually did anything to the account, but what I do know is that Fast Eddie finds the idea of a Hitler sockpuppet highly offensive, and refuses to help me access the account.
I can't think of any ways to solve this problem. Bitching about it won't solve anything, but I can't do anything else right now.

  • On the plus side, Fast Eddie is now one of the few people who can honestly say they were PMed by Adolf Hitler.
  • Whaddya mean "inb4 Godwin's Law"? You're a walking Godwin's!
  • Is the main account at least good?
  • Yeah, my main account is fine.
  • This doesn't have to do with the cookies thing, does it?
  • Huh, never thought about the cookies. I'll see if it works.

EDIT: Didn't work, I still can't log in.

YO YO YO U CAN'T C ME BOUT TO SPIT SUMTIN' STOOPID!
Fast Eddie needs to get his self righteous head out of his ass.  You'll allow people to talk about how creepy/stupid/sad/offensive they are in social situations and ban people for calling them out on it because....I dunno?  But the very name Adolf Hitler is that offensive to the guy?

Maybe AdolfHitler here is a fan of his art?

    You can change. You can.
    ...it's a sockpuppet, dude.

And it's joking. Probably. Hopefully, as Hitler is one of the cooler SPs (Sadly, Vegeta is not around anymore...;_;)

^Yes but I'm sure sockpuppeting is a form of trolling in fast eddie's mind, along with disliking TGWTG.
  • MillerCrossMillerCross
    You can change. You can.
    Yeah, because Eddie likes TGWTG.

    That's a good one.

Does everything have to go back to TGWTG?

Nup, he isn't. Kinda sad, really.

Well if he doesn't then I don't know what's going on in that head of is.

But he does ban for reasons that could be subjective

^I know that, I'm one of them, I don't like certain music but I can understand the appeal to it.  I don't like Tyler Perry movies but I can sort of understand the appeal to them (even I think Perry uses religion to hide the fact he's just making blaxploitation films).

Okay, so then why do you assume Fast Eddie likes TGWTG just because some people on TV Tropes do?
  • I don't think FE's ever watched it, to be honest.

    Seems pretty likely.

    Glaives are better.
Fast Eddie is a cunt anyway.
  • FYI Vegeta is supposedly controlled by Noimporta.  Contact him about it.

@AdolfHitler: Well, took Fast Eddie long enough to ban you, after Winston Churchill, Josef Stalin, and Franklin Roosevelt banned your damn empire.

  • More like SLOW EDDIE am I right guys?

Because you never know what you might see.
He did ban Justice's Hitler sockpuppet months back...
  • As it happens, my Pedobear puppet was unceremoniously banned. Dunno why.
  • KhwarizmiKhwarizmi
Because you never know what you might see.
    Because censorship.  Basically.

Eddie said they were tasteless.  *shrug*
  • Tasteless my ass.

...Is Pedrobear still not-banned, at least?
  • I deleted it. There's really no point if I can't have both.

Also holy crap that is a shitty reason for FE to have. Not that I'm going to bitch about it. I already got about as much use out of it as I felt like.

But if FE was aware of it, that either means he's been lurking the pony thread or someone hollered at it. Hmm...

I think it got banned when I bumped the "I Like Little Girls" thread and Blackcat came in and needledick'd the thread.
  • ^^Most likely the latter. I mean, FE has to be a pretty busy man, it's not like he'd just lurk a thread in hopes that somebody would use a sockpuppet in a way that could be even remotely offensive to someone.

    ...Or is it?

^I take back what I said, Blackcat isn't cool anymore. >:/

Banning sockpuppets bothers me, and here's why: Gelzo now has a completely useless sockpuppet, that (presumably) still counts toward his limit of 10 accounts, but cannot be deleted because he cannot log into it.
  • Whoa what? That counts towards my limit?
  • VorpyVorpy
    卐Unstoppable Sex Goddess卐 ああああああああああ
Yes. I have a bunch of banned sockpuppets on mine that I can't even delete which is probably why I can almost never log into TV Tropes.
  • KhwarizmiKhwarizmi
Because you never know what you might see.
^^^ Yeah, it does kinda suck.  That was the time I thought Gelzo might have been banned, remember?

    But yeah.

    ^^ I presume so, sorry.

^ Almost?  If you can sometimes log in, then that's not the reason.

  • Wow. That's kind of a dick move.
  • ... Firstly, why does anyone even need an alt on TVTropes?
Secondly... what is with the popularity of calling them sockpuppets around here?   That is such a nub thing to call them.
  • VorpyVorpy
    卐Unstoppable Sex Goddess卐 ああああああああああ
It's because it's Meta, even though the rest of the internet calls them joke accounts.

Some people want to make Meta jokes with them or roleplay anime characters.
  • MillerCrossMillerCross
    You can change. You can.
Actually, the term sockpuppet is fairly popular. At least, from what I've seen,

  • NyktosNyktos

"Sockpuppet" comes from Wikipedia, I think. It's the usual term on wikis, so it's no surprise it was adopted by the TV Tropes community.
  • Ah. A wiki thing.  Meh.   I still personally think it sounds stupid, but then I thought the term "mule" sounded stupid for the same thing the first time I heard that.  Then I realised why it was called that and fridge brilliance set in. O'course I don't tend to think of forum accounts as really being a source of extra inventory space...

... and it still doesn't explain why anyone would have such a thing on a Wiki... really.  Wikis are about the data itself, not whoever is posting it.... fuck.

    Forum metajokes I say.

What better way to edit the God Troper Tales than by declaring you are god, or commenting on the IJBM page about Candlejack...as candlejack?
  • NyktosNyktos

@SotiCoto: To attempt to rig article-for-deletion votes, et cetera.
  • Candlejack was actually a legitimate editor, not a sockpupp
  • Y'know how some people find it funny to, say, see someone else saying "you didn't tell me you were bring a secret weapon" get the response "That's Mama Luigi to you, Mario! *wheeze*" said by Mama Luigi himself.

Thus, sockpuppets on an internet forum.
  • NECROOOOO

I was thinking of making a new thread for this, but I figured it would be easier to just bump this thread. Anyway, I'm not sure how it happened, but I managed to log back into my account on TV Tropes. It's weird, I essentially just created the account again except the account was already there (it wasn't deleted, otherwise the avatar would be blanked).

    So... yay me, I guess?

A Smooth Talker has learned to increase their options in dialogue, without understanding what they are talking about.
The Get Known system is kind of weird. Multiple people have reported being able to simply do what you did after they were banned.

Sometimes ban evasion is as simple as logging in

Not only is the Get Known system weird, so is the account deletion system (which I know is only supposed to be used in a few cases but hold on I'm getting there)

Deleting your account with the deleter does diddly squat other than log you out, clear your cookies (does it even do this?), clear your avatar settings, and free your account up for anyone to just wander into. It does not remove your actual account, nor delete posts or PMs in your inbox.

I know it was intended to be used for deleting sockpuppets, blah blah blah a whole argument nearly started on IRC when I brought it up. But I'd still like to point to this post right here:

    http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12938209340A95028800&page=1#1

The part about accounts not being recoverable is either misinformation or just a straight-up lie.

I know this is about deleted accounts, but I assume bannings have similar gaping holes in them.
