Consider, if you will, the fact that Bethesda has to make some sort of canon between the games that lets them be vague about who won. If Skyrim's in the hands of the Stormcloaks or the Empire, it's clear who won. So my expectation is that the Thalmor are probably going to take Skyrim between games.2012-01-25 17:53:29

WaltzyBefore Chopin's consciousness entered this dreamworld, the world was in a loop in which Polka was fated to jump into the darkness and re-illuminate the world. The place in which she does this is within the deepest part of the Elegy of the Moon, which is a sort of mirror universe to almost everything before the end of the Tristesse chapter, excluding the very beginning in which you saw Polka completing the end of another time loop. Recall the beginning where Polka and Solfege are walking and Solfege is explaining to Polka that the ocean makes waves because it's moved by the moon's beauty. So to prevent the encroaching vague darkness from consuming the world of light, she jumps into the ocean/darkness from the moon to illuminate it, which is why Allegretto-poop-head finds her weird rock in the ocean that one time. Chopin's inclusion to the journey alters its events. His friendship with Polka gives her hope, which is best shown in the difference in what she says as she's falling ("I guess it won't" vs. "I hope it does"). Now, the source for this "illumination" I keep referring to is what is called an "astra", which is a term they talk way too little about, but basically it's the "jewel of the heart". Some people have dark sinister ones, others have brilliant, bright ones, defined by the amount of good and bad in one's heart, and Polka's is implied to be the only one true enough to pierce the evils of the world. So, sucks for her, but she has to keep making this journey all by her lonesome to go and die over and over again just to keep what beautiful parts of the world that remain alive. Until Chopin steps in. Things change. She gets inspired to do something, finally makes some friends, and things are pretty badass for a good long run. But, she's still gotta die, and this time around she has friends to say goodbye to. BUT. Sometimes, two people's astras are compatible, and can resonate with each other to create miracles. When Polka jumps this time to restart things, Chopin stops it, that much is clear. Now, they aren't really specific on this, but my inference is that Chopin's and Polka's astras were highly compatible. Like, a perfect freaking fit. Polka's is characterized by its brilliance, and Chopin has some heavy shit going on with the whole dying thing, so I'm guessing his is very dark. It is my belief that he gave up the rest of what was alive in him, so that their astras could strike a balance in the world and Polka can stop killing herself over and over again and live normally. Of course then they throw all this under the bus by strangling Polka and Poop-head with the red string when it's Chopin's connection with Polka that ultimately saves her, not anything that Poop-head does for her. He does nothing for her. He has no point in the story. Literally. You could take him out and NOTHING would change except for everything suddenly being a lot clearer. Just ignore his unnecessary ass. Then Chopin's like totes dead. Like, for REAL for real this time. So he goes and plays piano and his IRL ladyfriend sings so you have something pretty to listen to during the credits to distract you from the beautiful clusterfuck that just rotted your cerebellum from within.
