"Humans will just change the scale of X if Y happens"
So why the hell should we ever give a shit about advancement?
If everyone became pretty by today's standards, they will just consider whoever isn't as pretty as the person slightly prettier than everyone else as ugly.
If everyone only had what we currently perceive as positive emotions, the least positive emotion we think of right now will become HORRIBLE TORTURE AND SUFFERING to the positive-only people.
If everyone was slender to the extent of where their bodies suffer from disadvantages, what would be considered "healthy" would change into something else.
Why should we care then? If we aren't even going to consider the difference where eating like kings in the future will be normal with how barely surviving off insects would be in some past, then why the hell do we even try to do better? Is it just because most of us are actually idiots who cannot understand this reality or something? Is this such a great fact that nothing in the future can disprove it, even when we have no data?

Not buying this one. If you only had positive emotions, you wouldn't be able to perceive anything as horrible torture and suffering.
Not everything is a sliding scale. Sure, I feel hungry when I run out of food in the house, but I can afford not to literally starve to death. I'd be an idiot if I said I wasn't better off than a lot of people for that, and I'd also be demonstrably wrong unless I thought people were better off dead.
That may be true, but based on the logic of the scale changing, someone who only lives around people that barely survives on insects will consider that "normal" and just as "better off" as you are.
