Two of my friends actually started playing it, I wonder if I should do so too but I know how time-consuming Civilization can be.

I've fallen so low.
For real this time.
GOG Winter Sale - 14 days and change left. I did the calculation; I think it ends on 3 January 2026 at 08:00 UTC (that's 3am US EST, or 9am local time in Poland, where GOG is based).

Bunch of stuff on sale. They highlighted that they recently got Total War: Three Kingdoms (which is -75% at $14.99), and I also notice they have the new Hollow Knight: Silksong at -20% (the main game is -50%) as well as Tunic at -50%. (I'll get around to playing the original Hollow Knight and Tunic sometime...already have them though.)
itch.io Winter Sale - until 5 January 2026 at 18:00 UTC (that's 1pm US EST)

Works best if you've been keeping a list of games you're interested in.
BTW, itch.io is especially nicer than most other stores because you can (1) create as many custom lists of games as you want (not just one wishlist), and (2) those games can actually stay on your lists even if you buy them.
Unfortunately, IsThereAnyDeal no longer covers itch, for some reason. So keep in mind to check itch for deals on titles you like. (Most likely to work for indie games.)
For those of you who are into visual novels, JAST's winter sale is until January 3rd as well. I'm not linking it because there's some NSFW stuff on it (though you should already be familiar with this realm if you're into VNs lol), but it's easy enough to find.
Speaking of free Epic stuff, I see now I never posted about this: I played and finished Ghostwire: Tokyo, I believe it's the only AAA game released within the last decade that I've finished. I loved the plot and setting, but I gotta agree with the negative reception about repetitive exploration and especially combat. Also I kinda rushed through it, and I think I played it wrong by overusing charged (easy to hit) attacks and dodging instead of the more hectic regular shots and blocking/parrying.
Unfortunately apparently it was the death knell for its studio.

-60% discount until February 7, too.
FF3 and FF4 3D remakes, FF8 remastered version, and FF9 on PC.
This is big because historically Japanese IPs don't seem likely to go DRM-free.
The mod became so memetic it basically overtook the base game, and now there are, like, other mods following in its footsteps. Except most of them are not quite serious. Like, there is a mod about a civil war in modern day US after Joe Biden goes insane at some point late in his term.
Turns out there is another mod where everything is in Poland: TVT link.
I'd wager about a third of characters are politicians and the rest are whoever is the most memetic.
GUESS WHAT
FINAL FANTASY 7 ON GOG TOO
https://www.gog.com/en/game/final_fantasy_vii
i forgot to post about this when it got released like last week or so

Here's a nice little roguelike some fifteen minutes of gameplay long, part of some sort of roguelike game jam. So, it's not some must-play once-per-generation breakthrough of a game, but I'm posting it because I'm pleasantly surprised at the concept behind it. I was convinced that roguelikes have basically done all there was to be done within the boundaries of the genre, and yet here's something fresh.

It's to promote the new game, "An Abyss of Dreams", by the developer, Studio Chien d'Or
https://www.gog.com/en/game/an_abyss_of_dreams
also, Arzette: the Jewel of Faramore is on sale on GOG right now
https://www.gog.com/en/game/arzette_the_jewel_of_faramore
amusingly the base game plus the DLCs is cheaper than the deluxe edition right now lol
That's a fun game, and I've got a feeling you guys also might like it. (Update: my winning build was Diamond + crossbow. That skill that has you shoot around every time you deplete your ammo synergizes nicely with crossbow's single shot and big damage. Also good ones are fire mage skills for practical regeneration and that skill that makes enemies explode for more bullets flying around.)
I offer it to you without comment.
I don't know if I've posted this before but it's quite old and I am pretty sure I have not posted it in at least a decade.
Then we got SaGa games on GOG for the first time.
And now we have Mana games on GOG for the first time. Specifically, Legend of Mana (a remastered version of the PS1 game) and Trials of Mana (a 3D remake of Seiken Densetsu 3, the sequel to Secret of Mana that was Japan-only for many years).
All of the aforementioned games are on sale! (for another 10 days and change)
