that this place doesn't have an IRC channel
I mean, IIRC, the creators of this forum both came from IRC. I'd kind of expect that this place would have one too. It might even help with the fact that at certain times it slows down to a crawl. An IRC channel would provide a quicker response, or maybe a way to find people that want to talk right away.
Just a thought.

Anyway, there is a channel called #ijbm but it's a modcave right now. I don't yet see a reason to change it to a channel for this site.
Whether they do or not, I'm curious. How hard are they on bandwidth?

#ijbm on Espernet is now our official IRC channel; been so for a few months now I think.
If you don't have an IRC client, easiest way to get to it is webchat.esper.net and choose your username and type #ijbm for the channel.
