  • Okay, now I feel bad for driving Vivi to rage.

    Thumped.
  • I was expressing my opinion. Or is that not allowed anymore?
  • You know, by only reacting to anger, you are just teaching people to solve their problems with anger, Chagen.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
And that is the path to the Dark Side.

    STOP DOING THAT CHAGEN.

EVERY SINGLE TIME ANY DISAGREES WITH YOU, YOU SAY THE SAME THING. "OH, I GUESS HAVING A DIFFERENT OPINION ISN'T ALLOWED" STOP YOUR STUPID LITTLE PERSECUTION COMPLEX.

It doesn't help you AT ALL.

    You're a hypocrite.
  • While I'm usually against anger, Vivi is actually being logical in this bolded capslocked form.

    So, seconding.

Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
    Thirding.

Chagen, there's a difference between expressing your opinion and triumphing your opinion about like it's objectively correct and insulting people who disagree.

You both do the second thing and get mad at other people who do the second thing. You can't have it both ways.
  • Kichigai birthday!!
Though I'm a bit bothered by how it is a photo of a painting and not the painting itself, I have to admit.

  • "Keep Life Simple"

(plain typed text with no fancy fonts)

Not a particularly good metaphor if you ask me, but I can see the attempt behind it. At least it's not OMG a two-year-old/parrot/elephant painted this random jumble of colours; it must be deep and meaningful!

I'm not going to say that Chagen is always wrong.

But Chagen, have you ever thought "Hmm, since so many people on so many forums on the internet tell me that I'm wrong about a lot of things, maybe I AM wrong?"

No you didn't, because your first step is to play the victim.

  • Given how often it shows up, I assumed this was yet another case of True Art Is Incomprehensible.
  • Has friends besides tanks now
Welp, time to thump the shit out of a couple posts.

While I do that, I am telling everyone, with as much understanding and politeness as I can muster, to keep this conversation civil.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
    "Incomprehensible" is a perspective.
  • @Ian: I was going to make a crack at minimalism, but then I realized I don't actually understand minimalism.

  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.

Me neither, I don't follow art in any meaningful way, I'm just irritated when someone declares something 'not art', that is how art works.
  • Given how often it shows up, I assumed this was yet another case of True Art Is Incomprehensible.

You know what they say about gazing into abysses.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
Incomprehensible Art becomes significantly more well...comprehensible when you get into the artist's head. Then you actually see what he was trying to say rather than just what he's showing. And sometimes what he's trying to say is "I'm just fucking with you. :D".

Modern art becomes great once you realize that.
  • ^ That's why I love dada, really.  Because it's basically trolling as an artform. >.>

Then why muddle the message in incomprehensibility?

If I was an artist, I'd much prefer a comprehensible, but deep, painting than a incomprehensible one. I'm firmly in the realism camp.

    Though I do like Minimalism.

The point of art is not for it to understood.

^^^Again to just to fuck with you. That and some of the more abstract stuff looks really cool.

    @Vivi

I think the point of art is just what the artist wants it to be
  • "The point of art is not for it to understood."

And this is where we disagree.

The point of art, to me, is to detail something in some way. Whether is be a character, event, place, or something else, it details some thing. If it's not understandable, then it doesn't have a point.

I always thought the point of art was to evoke an emotional response of some sort.

Which is why I'd place this not as art in itself, but as either an asset for it, or proof of the technical skill to do it.  Either way, it's exactly the kind of thing DA is in a place to praise it for.
