People who appear to have some kind of Joker Immunity to getting banned

Just for the record, this thread is not about Tongpu. I don't like Tongpu, but I can understand why he hasn't been banned.

I'm talking about people who seem to constantly get into flame wars and have their posts thumped, but never get so much as a temp-ban. How do these people stick around?

    Well, this forum had an explanation in the past. Using the banhammer is intimidating and something mods don't want to apply lightly. Because of this reluctance, drama can persist (in our case, for months before action was taken).

    Wrong fucking trope.

    Joker Immunity implies that they are getting banned but coming back because it would be bad for the forum if they were to leave and the good people would have nothing to do due to it. Or, it means that the people are too popular with the forum-goers to kill off effectively without losing a lot of the core enjoyment.

    Which is exactly why you demanded his ban and pissed off mods through that.

    There are quite many people, I would like to see banned, but I don't pester the mods with it. "I don't like him" is not a reason for a ban.

    Ignoring Nyarly's attempt to make this thread be about me, I'd like to point out that Acridity has been reported. He has been thumped before, but the mods never seem to remember him, despite how often he gets in trouble.

    Anyway, I'm a bit confused since I thought that Acridity actually got banned. I may confuse it with something else, but on the other hand, I can't remember the last time, I saw him.

    No, I'm pretty sure I don't. I think it was even before ID got banned. But maybe I don't just confuse it with something, but am completely wrong.

    On the other hand, sometimes I'm surprised who gets banned. There are a lot of people I've heard get banned and I'm like, "for what?"
