Improving and expanding IJBM

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
    Me.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
I would, but only after I get back to my Umineko one back on TV Tropes.

    Or I could cross-post it, I guess.
  • You can change. You can.
I'd do one. In fact, I've been planning one for Madoka for quite a bit with another poster. Although I don't know if he'll join me.
  • I wanted to do a liveblog of US Route 40 (with Google Street View), but I don't know if I'd do it on IJBM.
  • let's go on an ill advised road trip everyone

    Loser
    IanExMachina,
It would be good to have these categories/sections ready but it would
help if we had a larger community as well, as then you'd have a lot more
    participation.

I agree. Unfortunately, I do not know of a good way to help with member recruitment, sorry. I still think that having more categories in the forum could help keep new members though, especially the idea of a forum for organizing things with other IJBMers. I think that would help give people reasons to stay on IJBM II even if they were not familiar with TV Tropes since I think it would give more of a community feel than just a bunch of topics about things you dislike alone would.

    Forzare,
How many people here would actually make liveblogs if we were given the option?

I would do a liveblog about Storylords if I had that option.
  • I'd do a liveblog. I'm planning a stupidly long one now.
  • Bumping because it's motherfucking relevant and this site needs more traffic.

    "Pimp IJBM on other forum?
I'd do this except I'm not really on any other forums."

I would do this, but I doubt any of the people from the forums I visit would care for this place (excluding trolling purposes), and I doubt the users here would be very excited over some of those guys...
  • The only heavily-populated forums I go on besides here now are TVT and Toon Zone. I'm not sure the latter would be very interested in this place, and the very heavy connections to TVT and the markedly different culture make me kind of reluctant.
  • This and TVT are the only forums I frequent on which I don't know anyone personally. I could drop links with the Dutch anon division or on the frat forum(a lot of people there frequent TVT, but don't know about its fora), but frankly having people I know IRL visit here would limit the range of topics I feel comfortable discussing, so I'd rather not do that.
  • Stealth-links.

In other communities, link back here in signatures... but covertly. Make things links to here that otherwise needn't be..... so sooner or later folks will show up here either accidentally or out of momentary curiosity.

    I'm a damn twisted person
Question: Wouldn't it make more sense to get this forum's affairs in order before thinking of pulling more people in? We're still a rather in-jokey twatish mess.
  • I was thinking the atmosphere might be off-putting as well. I didn't say it because I didn't want to offend anyone.

If this place stops being a jokey twatish mess, I'm so leaving.

I encourage jokey twatish messes. I encourage them with my tongue. I encourage them by licking the twat until it ejects a twatish mess.

I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
    ^

  • It's sort of a catch-22: Improving the atmosphere might help to bring in more members from outside TVT, but at the same time I think bringing in more posters from outside TVT would help improve the atmosphere.

    (This probably doesn't make sense)
  • It sounds tough to pull off, but not nonsensical.
  • Like getting a sweetheart from the ground up to stop being a virgin with rage.

I don't see how non-tropers would help the atmosphere, tho.
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
Well as long as everyone worked towards it and the rules are enforced it shouldn't be too tough?
  • "It's sort of a catch-22: Bringing in more people who'd like this type of forum will lead to more problem posters and the mood souring. Staying small will bore people and sour the mood."

    Fixed that for you. :3

I don't see how non-tropers would help the atmosphere, tho.
Well, I was thinking it would improve the ratio of actual discussion to bitching about TVTropes.
  • You can change. You can.
I'd say it's a cycle. Which starts with us doing both. We shouldn't be focusing in just bringing new people, but we shouldn't be focusing in just changing the atmosphere.

Personally, the atmosphere is hardly bad. But I'd wager that is because we don't have the usual drama we usually have.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
Plus, they could tell their friends as well, etc.
  • ^^I'm glad the drama seems to have cooled off.
  • ^ As am I.

(Partly because it means you're back, and that's always fun)

When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
    ¡Sí! Let the fun begin!
  • You can change. You can.
Well, enjoy it till it lasts, tomorrow we'll probably have it back...

    -sigh-

I am indeed aware this will be thumped...probably.
  • Look.... how about we just link-drop this place all over the internets and bring in everyone we can....
AND THEN we just ensure that we keep our behaviour the same so all the serious business suits get morally outraged and flounce their way elsewhere..... a'ight?
  • You can change. You can.
    > Implying we all share your opinion on the so-called serious business suits.

What... you don't think there are enough communities out there saturated with enough serious business to drown a family of giraffes already?
Next thing you know, all words not featured in preschool television will be censored out. People will be banned for minor derails. Butt-licking staff will be mandatory at all times. Criticism will be strictly forbidden. Children will start showing up, and the site will be marketed as "family fun". We'll all need to wear approved, uniform avatars and smile constantly. The site will be renamed to "ItJustHugsMe" and we'll have to sing the site anthem every morning or be banned from the whole Internets.

Personally, I can't think of a worse nightmare.
