  • Blatantly ignoring a warning from a mod should count.

    I was only doing that Snailfish thing as a joke, not as a challenge against Cygan's modship.

    You can change. You can.
    I think that's a double strike. Infraction plus contempt.

    ^ Relax, nobody is accusing you...yet. :P
  • As far as threadlocks go: My main problem with some certain threadlocks (like tonight's MLP thread) is that they effectively defeat the purpose of the "don't post in threads you don't like" rule--at this point anyone can basically be guaranteed to get a thread shut down by imagespamming it. In cases where it's only one or two posters causing the trouble, I'd prefer to see it dealt with on an individual level, so the rest of us can continue discussion.
  • I think that's a double strike. Infraction plus contempt.
    Really? I'd say there should definitely be a "warning" before a "strike".
  • You can change. You can.
    ^^ I agree with that.

    ^ I also agree with this.

    If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

    It was done after I had posted a warning.

    As to the threadlock- I did not really have very many options. I could either;

    a) Threadlock; or

    b) Thump irrelevant posts, threaten people with a ban and forcefully continue the discussion.

    If we figure out a system like this, well, that'd be great.

    If

    [Thread Quality (less than) 1]
       * if Shitstorm (equal to/greater than)=1
       * if Discussion (equal to/less than) =0
    -->Lock Thread

            * if Relevance (less than) =1
            * if "rule" variables = false/null

    I know, I'm talking in general terms. (I thought that was the point of the thread)
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
    I cannot seem to make that judgement call =/
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
    Ah, I thought you were talking about that specific case.

    cmon, put on your big girl bra and take action. You are the mod here, not us, which means that you must BELIEVE in what you are doing, even if people like me and gelzo sow seeds of deception and uncertainty into your cabbage garden. You must keep little platies like us away from your cabbage, for your cabbage is sacred and all-knowing, and must not be tainted by the likes of us. Keep your cabbage safe, take action and keep the platy away.

    YOU MUST DO THIS
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭

    See the one on the top? That's me, about to wreck your shit and confuse you.

    The one on the bottom is Gelzo, ready to make you doubt your actions and sulk in the corner in guilt.

    WE ARE PLATIES, AND WE WILL FUCK YOUR SHIT IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL, OKAY?
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
    Here's the thing.

    I am the mod. I need to make the call as to when to take action, and you guys need to accept that.

    On the other hand, I need to listen to you guys. I cannot simply take action without regard for the userbase.

    So, I try to make the right call. I see a thread where we're having a good discussion. Someone posts an image; I respond. Someone comments, I respond and say "No imagespamming". The discussion derails into eyerolling, sighing and people commenting on how lame this is. No further discussion is had. I lock. People yell at me for locking the thread.

    Do you see where I'm having trouble here?

    I'm a damn twisted person
    Honestly I'm not so sure why the hesitation about just perma-banning people for repeated offenses after warnings have been given. They shouldn't need a punishment to know they are behaving badly and should change, the warnings accomplish that. And really worst case scenario, it's just a ban from a tiny forum. For them, life will go on.

    Cygan, you ever hear the saying "You can please some people all the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all the time." Well okay, the original phrase was about tricking people, but the point stands. You are in a position of authority lady. Sometimes you have to piss people off in order to do your job.

    You can change. You can.
    ^^ This is a thankless job. Especially here, where most people don't appreciate anything that interrupts their shit posting.

    ^ My point was that if they don't have warnings, then why go the full way. Also, etc etc benefit of the doubt and shit like that.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
    My opinion on the locked thread:

    Discussion was over, I won't miss it.

    how about you guys?
  • You can change. You can.
    ^ Agreed. Not like it matters. The point was more the method involved and that the thread was thrown down the shithole again because some posters can't just stop doing stupid shit again
  • We used to be so well-behaved when IJBM2 was new...
  • I'm a damn twisted person
    Juan - benefit of the doubt for the first warning or two. If they keep making a habit of it, oh say three or four instances bad enough to warrant a talking to then by the fifth instance a ban should be fine.

    Agreed. My main problem is that this keeps happening (threads getting locked for imagespam) and it doesn't seem to be getting any better.

    You can change. You can.
    ^^ Oh, OK, I can agree with that.

    My main problem is that this keeps happening

    Why did this make me laugh? And yeah, I agree that it isn't working.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
    How's about this:

    From now on, I'm going to keep a track of violations of rules like this, the same as I keep track of the posts I've thumped and why.

    If a person gets three in an... amount of time that I won't specify, I send them a warning. If they violate that, I ban them for a week; if they violate a rule they've been warned about again, permaban.
  • You can change. You can.
    I like that.
  • You can change. You can.
    Also, I was wondering, though, if you forget to lift a ban, how will the banned person in question contact you?
  • That's...a good question, actually.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
    We need a bannouncement.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
    > implying I would forget

    Honestly? I'll go make an e-mail account for that now.
