Rebuild of Evaneglion 3 isn't out yet
I haven't even thought about this in months and it still isn't out. Just release it so I can complain about it already!

I didn't enjoy the second Rebuild movie.
I like to think I won't see the third one after that, but I will.
Which is to say, it is teh awesomesauce.
I only watched the commentary to doctor horrible.
>Don Zabu, explain Dumbed down action for me, please.
Compare Asuka's first fight from the series and Asuka's first fight from the movie.
In the series, since both Shinji and Asuka are forced to pilot the Eva together, we get some preliminary character development in the way that the two have to stop bickering and cooperate. We also get to see how the team operates under vulnerability when the Eva is plunged into the water and is unable to move, and more of Misato's mastermind tactical ability.
In the movie, it's pretty much "boom, Asuka kicks ass G-Gundam style, moving on".
I realize that there's bound to be some fundamental changes when going from show to movie due to the medium's different structures, but so far, I'd still rather watch the series than the movies.
^ Compare it to the first Rebuild movie. I liked the first one a lot better for exactly the reasons you allude to; everything important was there, everything that was cut had its absence justified in a believable way, and it kept everything at an understandable level.
I also found that movie's climax much more enjoyable than the second movie's climax because, not only was the action more intense than in the show, the climax didn't overstay its welcome and drag on too long to the point of exhaustion.
