    He got hurt and taken to the hospital. There are rumors going around that he is brain-dead at this point, but they haven't been substantiated yet (at least publicly).

    He is an older man, a U.S. senator from Kentucky, and the Republican leader in the Senate. He was already not running for re-election, but outright leaving office (before the end of his term this coming January) would be noteworthy news.

    After at least a couple tweets where people spoke about speaking to McConnell for 20 minutes, it has now become a running joke (in at least the chat I'm on) to claim that one has spoken to McConnell about some assortment of topics for about 20 minutes.

    This tells you how useful anecdotes are, I guess.

    I just learned about the air conditioning debate in parts of Europe and some of the weird ideas people over there about how they work, like how the expelled hot air heats up the environment but the cold air spontaneously heats up without ever cooling down anything outside.

    Air conditioners make places cool and cozy, if you or your country have been diligent about carbon emissions reduction you can have it, as a treat.

    (It's not often that something that can charitably be called my area of expertise becomes a political talking point, so I have to make use of the opportunity.)

    For what it's worth I've seen some talk about the need for leftist air conditioning policy. Air conditioning as a human right to comfortable living conditions and so on.

    For the most part we just don't have it installed at home here, like, I dunno, Italians always have a bidet and don't understand why it's not a global standard. It is in office buildings and the like and there's always that one guy who turns it on at the coolest possible setting and doesn't seem to notice everyone's freezing.

    Anyhow, I wonder if temperatures increasing noticeably will result in more pressure over reducing carbon emissions, given the recent heatwaves and the fact that it's going in Europe (and hence they get talked about elsewhere), it feels much more noticeable now.

    The heat wave I had was nasty, but lasted for only a few days so it was manageable as far as I'm concerned. It's not like I live ten degrees off Equator, heh heh. But yeah, I was kind of surprised myself it was so easy on me, I tend to hate heat.

    I'm not, like, ideologically opposed to air conditioning... it's more like old-man-yells-at-cloud opposed. I prefer when the air's cool because you sit in the basement or something, and air conditioning does that thing that the air's always a bit too cool and smells odd, but I see the appeal.

    In other news, something wrong is going on and it makes me worried.

    Folks seem to be getting fed up with Ukrainians. I've got this friend, whom I always considered "impressionable", but otherwise not a bad person, who suddenly went live on her social media account dormant for two years to spam anti-Ukrainian agitprop. You might have heard of the Volhynian Clusterfuck, but that seems to be the catalyst for something growing for a while. It's easy to pin it on Russia, but I'm afraid they can't create something that wasn't in some rudimentary form already there.
