As far my associations with the Philippines it's... neutral I guess? The first thing that comes to my mind is being the country composed of lots of islands. Poor for sure, but so is the majority of the world, there were also the Duterte news back when that was current, it's also one of the few countries outside Latin America/Spain with a significant proportion of native Spanish speakers, also lumpias are quite popular in Venezuela... as Chinese food, but ehh, even with misattribution I'd still count it as a positive Philippines cultural thing.
We only started interacting on HH, after I had decided to drop the facade entirely - because at that point, I was no longer a minor.
On the other hand, I don't think I would have had a negative impression of Americans back when you were pretending to be one (not that we'd have interacted back then since I was gone for years, ahaha) but I'm fairly certain I've picked up an overall negative impression of them by now.
But.
I mean, howevermuch I'd like to pin the blame on all the lefte shizzle I've been reading, I'm pretty sure I didn't need it to get riled up. The moment I lost all interest was when they chose to make a point about productivity by calculating costs on the employer's end. I'm like, come on. I get that the intention was to show a newly founded startup is going to reward the hardworkers first, but you're not gonna make me in on it by showing how the boss ain't gonna buy the second Mercedes this year if everyone leaves office after only eight hours. Sheesh.
Edit: And Japan too, hopefully not nearly as bad, their buildings are much more apt for handling earthquakes than ours after all.
Anyways, not much changed, so it's not really of an update. Although, gonna have access to means of shhhposting now.
Also I should probably say something alcoholic here but I can't quite come up with anything right now.

I mean, at first he almost got me, as I wasn't aware they're good enough to generate cursive text on a background imitating notebook paper. It even had thicker corners in drawn frames, like the ones you get when you press down the pen before pulling it along the sheet. But it was, like, too perfect. No student has handwriting as good as that. So I looked deeper and of course, nonsense words began to appear.
At this point it was enough to know, but when I took another glance later, I noticed the topic was also nonsensical, like it was put together out of three different exercises. Which it was. Because the fucker tried to pass three overdue exercises in one go.
The way you say it, it sounds like the student would've gotten away with it if he had handwritten the LLM's output. Imagine that (soon?) anybody will be able to do all that, but without those tells and including a video of themselves doing the thing.
(Relatedly, I've heard stories of professors forgiving cheaters if the cheating is clever enough, though I've always heard of it as a possibility instead of something that ostensibly happened.)
(For what it's worth, I've had students use LLM to generate an exercise problem, which we then solved the classic way. Was honestly quite fun.)
You know what, when that happens, I might even appreciate it. But obviously enough, that wasn't what just happened here.
(IIRC it might've been the same fucker who once applied a LLM to generate a solution to a problem I gave them. In that context, it actually worked, although it didn't use the proper notation and I warned them about it. As a way to double-check if you're doing it right - why not.)
I dunno how much he agreed with other conservative or right-wing positions, though I have a feeling (based on it getting hinted at in discussions) that we might have disagreed about the war in Ukraine. Also I remember him having some disagreements with Donald Trump but I don't remember what.
Back in the earlier 2010s, he didn't strike me as a particularly political person, before these issues came up in the later 2010s. He's since basically stopped posting on IJBM. Since this was the only place we had contact before, I haven't spoken to him in a while.

It's kind of funny (in a sad way) I missed it when he scared off the trans folks. That's basically a story I know from Glenn because I somehow never noticed. I mean, I never claimed I was any good at being woke, but on the other hand, I've always been good at missing important social cues. So, Iunno.
If I could foresee the drama that came out of it, I'd have tossed him out. But by the time that I had connected the dots to make such a choice, the other people were long gone and it was a moot point.
Also it's ironic that this thread has become the old IJBM topic thread. Well, I guess this isn't nostalgia. Obnoxious drama isn't something I feel nostalgic for.
I should add that despite what I said about mellowing out, the matter of women 2.0 is one where his opinion is mostly unchanged, it's one topic he's oddly (ahem) intransigent about.
The ballooning political arguments were beyond annoying, but I don't know what could have been done that wasn't a heavy handed measure (at least in comparison to the casual way the site has been handled historically).
Also, I didn't have as much free time as I used to.
I did feel they were in keeping with the nature of IJBM -- that people are allowed to complain about whatever and argue about whatever -- but in retrospect I've also realized that that's a fundamentally misguided idea on which to base a community.
In hindsight I suppose we could have had more maturity when it comes to conflicts with other users, but also being more stern about mod action vs. disruptive users when that failed (it's harder when those users are your friends I guess).
