Please tell me this is a tempban, unless he went further over the line in PMs/had a prior history of warnings. If badly worded grumpiness about the cyclical nature of semantic wank threads is a enough to warrant a permaban, then the pendulum's swinging a tad too much in the other direction.
The dude was constantly rude to everyone for as long as I can remember him being a regular here, and flat-out said that being civil was too much effort on more than one occasion.
Meh, I never got that vibe from him because he didn't seem rude at someone in specific as well as cynical and world-weary, which is tiresome but not that offensive. Didn't really like or dislike him, not that that matters.
Ehh, seriously? He might have been grumpy, and might have shown it on untimely occations, but despite his own admissions he never struck me as uncivil. If anything, he just badly worded his complaints (at things and people besides posters).
I'll miss him.
This isn't a permaban. Or wasn't intended to be. The mod consensus was weekban for being consistently and underhandedly rude. Whether Lazuli will come back or not is up to him; this might end up being a permaban in practise.
As he already scrambled his password and logged out:
14:35:32 @ClockworkUniverse | "Because IJBM is an extremely unpleasant place, and the mod team is largely unwilling to do anything about it."
If it's draining him emotionally in whatever way, it's good he's taking a break(I assume password retrieval stops this from being a permanent flounce).
That said, Lazuli was quite definitely being a jerk, and we do indeed have a rule against being a jerk.
As for what action was appropriate, I'm not going to comment on that, because I wasn't around for the mod discussion regarding this.
It's a parody of this design from the first OP of K-ON!

But the symbols are the instrument icons from Rock Band.
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s205/PSP_Junky/yupiwins.png
I guess they decided to use the vocal harmony one instead of the regular vocals one, which is why I didn't recognize it (vocal harmonies were only in RB:The Beatles and RB3, both of which I haven't played)
And actually, it doesn't even make sense for them to use the vocal harmony icon. If they're going to use icons from RB3 they might as well just use the keys icon and have it match up better with the original design...
^^ The first opening is admittedly not that good, but the second two openings are cool, whereas the first and third endings were good, even though "NO Thank You!" is basically a retread of "Don't say 'lazy.'"
First OP and ED are a bit lame in that they don't change much to incorporate Azusa. The OP just lazily superimposes her onto the scenes of the girls playing their instruments and doesn't include her at all in the rest of it, and the ED doesn't have Azusa at all. Even musically, the guitar parts they add for her are kind of stupid and don't really fit the songs very well. The rest of the OPs and EDs don't have this problem though, obviously, since Azusa is present throughout season 2. Other than that though, I think the animation and music for all of the OPs and EDs are pretty great other than some weirdly animated bits in "Don't say 'lazy'".
Also: All the EDs are perfect because of the outfits and all the OPs are perfect because of Yui.
Sorry for dawdling, guys. Just had to make sure I wouldn't do it only to then have the rest of the mod team ream me out for it, like when I tried to ban Myr a little while ago.
^Yesterday had 4 mods telling evilneko to cut it out, with most of IJBM disapproving of her posts. Pretty sure that's about as unanimous as you can get.
True. I just needed to make sure this wasn't a one-off thing where she shits up threads she made upon re-entry and is then more reserved. I would have liked to ban her yesterday, though.
20 hours, of which she was active for maybe three, is too slow? Wow, I'm generally one of the more ban-supportive mods, but you guys are pretty bloodthirsty.
She was banned before, because she was spamming somewhat creepy loli pictures, and when told to stop, she posted a (non-loli) hentai picture instead. That probably would have been a permaban today, but that was back when we still hadn't even kicked Chagen out.
My sincere apologies. From now on, there will be a word filter. Anyone who mentions the word "loli" or any related word will be instantly banned, all of their posts will be deleted, and a missile will be launched at their house.
Aside from everything? Nothing.
Anyhow, I was actually in the middle of typing an ultimatum when the ban hit.
It was going to say this: (1) IJBM nowadays is mainly for discussions, with limits on wonderposting (unlike the last days of IJBM 1.0), (2) almost everyone here finds her repeated mentions of "loli"s disturbing, because the term is, like it or not, associated with disturbing connotations of pedophilia, and (3) if she would like to discuss anything related to lolis, including any media involving them, she had better do it in an intelligent, thoughtful, non-dismissive manner.
I figured that that would be enough to get her to flounce (a.k.a. ragequit) or flameout (a.k.a. go out with a bang, i.e. be egregious enough to force a ban).
Or if that didn't work, she'd probably trip up #3 soon enough. Or #2.
And if she survived that, then she would have changed enough.
I didn't see her be overly aggressive with her shit like Chagen and Draven were, but man, she just did not get a fucking grip that no one gave a shit about anything she had to say.
A philosophy that I should probably try harder to emulate, myself. It's funny, I actually just came to that quote [yesterday], going through the postgame E4.
What we initially noticed is that they behaved very similarly. Then when we went to check the IP, it actually was very near GL's. This was deemed too circumstantial at the time (that was around two months ago). And THEN he switched to the same avatar. I'd call that a bit too much coincidence.
There was also an anonymous tip that claimed CP was another user. Probably best not to divulge more information about that, but there you go. Personally, I think this is all a bit circumstantial as well, and we might have erred here, but this has been going on for months and new bits of evidence kept on dripping in. More likely than not, CP was a ban-evader, anyway.
On the contrary, I think it harkens back to my second to first avatar somewhat. http://i46.tinypic.com/setahd.jpg Plus, how could I pass up such a classy avatar?
B-b-b-but... Shino Amakusa is voiced by Youko Hikasa, who was in K-ON! as well but not as Azusa! You'd need your avatar to be a picture of Mio making a face like that for a connection between your current avatar and that one avatar you used to have make sense!
Or something.
Ooh. I saw this picture when I was looking for my Mugi avatar I'm using now. I actually considered using it too, but since it was Mugi's birthday I figured I needed an avatar that was just her.
Of course you went for a bad guy. Of course.
I'm kinda surprised you didn't go for Loki, considering he's a troll, if a bit of a petulant and faily one.
Vandro already has him. Didn't want to copy someone else. Otherwise I totally would have gon for Loki. But it was either a Chitauri Hawkeye, or Coulson. . . . Wait, is this a Chitauri, or Thanos?
Not going to complain too loudly here because I doubt he was going to become a valued member of the site or anything, but I'm going on record as still disagreeing with banning people who don't break any actual rules.
There's also Rule 6a: "This website shall not be construed to be fit for any particular purpose. You will not depend on this website for anything, including (but not limited to) your personal well-being . . ." In other words, he was trying to sway us into accepting that he has an unhealthy mindset, and he's putting too much value in his membership of this place. We don't want to deal with that, and we can't really help him with his issues anyway. Besides, I still have trouble accepting the idea that he was sincerely repentant, given how drastic his change in behavior over the course of that thread was, as well as how he kept placing emphasis on keeping it under wraps, rather than taking it upon himself to evaluate himself if therapists/counselors weren't feasible.
I should also mention that his application reason was about how angry he was that he got banned from TVT and as soon as we accepted him we sent him a pm about the drama importing rule, so it's not like he shouldn't have seen this coming.
^^, ^ Also good points. I forgot about the bit with his application reason. And as for "don't piss off the mods", that's basically the only good reason we have Rule 0; it's a catch-all so we can get rid of people we don't want around.
Really, all I got before going off was him complaining about his ban which I misread, assuming he was angry for falsely being called a pedophile. Then I came back.
The confusing thing about him was that he was clueless of the idea that revealing such an objectionable thing to a public forum(albeit an obscure one) was an incredibly stupid thing to do. The fact that his apologies seem insincere don't help.
It was not handled badly. We were right to be as aggressive as we were. We made a clear ultimatum that his behavior was unacceptable, and booted him because of that. We are not psychologists, we are not to try and help him. We are, however, to get rid of people who disrupt the forum environment by having repugnant opinions or import drama (Draven did both).
The thread itself is the best elaboration. In short, though, some people in the thread chose to post venomous comments that didn't contribute rather than, say, not posting.
I apologize; I did sorta forget how many useless posts were there because they weren't as bad (to me, as a veteran of this forum) as what followed after I showed back up. I was fine with the people who were actually talking to him, but the "Pedophilia is wrong and disgusting" posts were pretty useless.
Honestly, I don't really hold this against anyone in particular, but I think it can only be a good thing to see where this err'd and where we could handle this kind of thing better in the future.
@Everest: I was talking to you, yeah. I asked because the Chagen comparison seemed like a pretty apt one to me, even if he wasn't nearly as bad as Chagen was.
I wouldn't say the comparisons were entirely lacking in basis, but that was the point in the thread where we went from merely shaming him with the hope that he'd seek therapy (or, for some, leave) to unashamedly picking on him.
Well, for what it's worth, he went more or less right to BTL. There has been what barely qualifies as an interaction between him and Werewolf Militia, but he's only posted in one other thread so far...I have no idea what's going to happen, but I fear it won't be good.
The ban is permanent, for his behavior in the "Big Bill Hell's Cars" thread; when evaluated in context of his past record, he hasn't improved sufficiently.
He insulted Demongodofchaos out of nowhere, but I think this has more to do with his long track record of being obtuse and confusing.
Regardless I don't agree with a permaban.
It's less this one thing and more that between his having been banned twice before and being the only user who's ever had to be put in the probation role, he was pretty much on his last chance.
I'm standing by the permaban. INUH pretty much nailed it, and I've grown out of the mindset where I think it's acceptable to post while you're in that sort of mood.
Unfortunate, but he had too many chances already.
"and being the only user who's ever had to be put in the probation role"
Don't forget Chagen (though more like he should have been)
Well, bear in mind that probation just prevents threads from being started. Chagen's problems tended to mostly lie with his coming into some preexisting thread and turning it into a thread about him.
I know you said one week off, but how is that going to affect him much when he just comes and goes every so often? I guess I can't complain about getting rid of him for the moment anyway.
Nah, it's for this:
"Clearly, the people who do this sort of thing should've been beaten more when they were children. Somehow I doubt they'd think their shit was so cute after it got them a few dozen cracks with a leather belt."
That feel when you could be watching Future Diary, or playing BlazBlue, or giving Physics homework a second try, but instead you're trying to solve a Sudoku puzzle you've been stuck on forever.
@Schitzo: Thanks, man. @Neo: What, really? . . . I was just going for emo fuck with a top hat, but I'll take it. @Juan: He's a relatively well-known pick-up artist, if not the most well-known. So, I guess some people consider him a superhero.
. . . Sad thing is, I'll probably engineer my hair to look like that once it's at the proper length. Went the way of ludicrously expensive hair care products, and I already notice the difference, but they also have a high-strength straightener. Then it's just a matter of dying it, I guess. oh god what am i
