Why Do Japanese People Like The Buckeye State So Much?

From what I can tell, every morning in Japan, people talk about that Midwestern U.S. state for some reason. I know this kind of thing is not anime-exclusive since I remember seeing it in Karate Kid II, but I doubt it is some kind of TV and movie in-joke I just happen to not understand. I suppose that is a possibility. I just think it is too widespread for that to be the case.

It might just be some widespread Japanese meme. If so, I wonder why the state that contains Cleveland would become popular over Wisconsin, Michigan, or Iowa. Sorry if this is obvious, but does anyone know why that might be?

Well, Ohio and Illinois are the two biggest states in that region. Michigan is third I guess.

This video makes it seem like there is some connection between Ohio and Eels.

I searched for more information about that, but all I really found was stuff about the American Eel. Apparently, it is a threatened species in Ohio, so maybe Japan is just really big on raising awareness about that kind of thing.
